TOEIC Day 4 - Reading 1 (Email / Announcements / vocabs) (เทคนิคการเตรียมตัวสอบ toeic ภายใน 16 วัน)

เทคนิคการเตรียมตัวสอบ toeic ภายใน 16 วัน
TOEIC Day 4 - Reading 1 (Email / Announcements / vocabs)

Part VII of TOEIC test is about reading comprehension. So the questions are in similar form to other popular tests such as TU-GET and CU-TEP GED TOEFL IELTS SAT SAT-II GMAT GRE . But instead of long passages, you will be given e-mails, announcement posters, news article, or easy texts from magazine. Undoubtedly, reading test in TOEIC is the easiest one. That's why the problem usually involves not the text or questions but the time.

Remember to get through these questions with speed. You typically don't have enough time for second thought. The key thing that you need to pay attention is how to retrieve the correct answers by practicing a lot.

The easiest and the most frequent type of text is email or letter. There may be one email/letter or, usually, two interacting emails/letters. They could be a response between a supplier and a customer regarding the product, a meeting arrangement, or some kind of notification. Here is the website where you can find sample test.

Check this out :  https://www.englishclub.com/esl-exams/ets-toeic-practice-7.htm

Look at these sample e-mails and I will tell you what the essential technique is.

The possible question is 'How was the order made at first?'. The given interaction is made via email but that's not necessarily the answer. When you're working on TOEIC reading test, you could either look at the text first or the questions first. For the email or letter, I prefer reading the text first and read every line. Skim-and-scan technique is unnecessary at this point since the text usually comes in short length with easy vocabularies.
'How was the order made at first?' You must be able to identify the position where the answer is located. In this case, it should be at the beginning of the email. There you'll find As we spoke on the phone earlier this morning,…. Then you know that the order was maid via telephone. The email is just for confirmation.
Another common type of text is an announcement on general topic, maybe store promotions or sales, service termination, or party events.

Several tricky questions can be made out of this announcement. For example, What is the objective of this home remodeling project? What is the maximum financial support a home owner could get? Can the home owner make the repair?. For this announcement, you definitely have to go through the text first because there are so little details. Then read the questions and you'll be able to locate the answers faster. Try out this test along with many more at this site.

TOEIC Day 3 - Listening 1 (Photographs) (เทคนิคการเตรียมตัวสอบ toeic ภายใน 16 วัน)

เทคนิคการเตรียมตัวสอบ toeic ภายใน 16 วัน
TOEIC Day 3 - Listening 1 (Photographs)

The first part of TOEIC Listening test is photographs. 10 photographs will be given. You'll hear 4 sentences from the audio. Pick the one that best describe or in accordance with the photograph. The photos portray general situation in daily life. They may include everything we see every day, people, animals, or places. Here is what you should bear in mind.

  • The choices you'll hear are not always the description of the photo but they may be facts and false that can be drawn from the photo.
  • The choices will come in a form of a full sentence, one simple sentence. Make sure you pay attention to the whole sentence, not just first few words. Perceive it as a sentence, not each word separately.
There are two useful techniques. The first one is pay good attention to the audio. Don't try to pre-identify the possible keywords because there are too many possibilities. You'll get panic when you don't hear the words you though you would hear. This will only distract you from the audio. Here are some examples.

The keywords you might be thinking of.

  • Cars
  • Buildings
  • Skyscrapers
  • River
  • Boats

   The choices are

   (A) There are more craft on the water than there are cars on the road.

   (B) This photo shows us a busy rush hour scene.

   (C) Most of the buildings in the picture are typical domestic residences.

   (D) There is no evidence of any people walking in the photo.

As you can see, the choices are something that you can't guess. So, don't guess. However, when you listen to the audio, try to locate the KEYWORDS in the choices and look at the specific part of the photo regarding them. The underlined ones are the keywords.

The second technique is eliminating the wrong answers. Rather than choosing the right answer, try to identify the wrong answers instead.

(A) There are more craft on the water than there are cars on the road.

Wrong. There are less craft on the water than there are cars on the road. At this point, even though you don't know what craft means, you know that there is barely nothing on the water.

(B) This photo shows us a busy rush hour scene.

Possible. The traffic seems to be really bad. So, it could be rush hour.

(C) Most of the buildings in the picture are typical domestic residences.

Wrong. The buildings are skyscrapers. They are definitely not typical residences.

(D) There is no evidence of any people walking in the photo.

Wrong. You can see people walking along the river.

Now you know that B is the right answer. Now, if it appears to you that there are more than one possible answers. Try your best guess and move on to the next question.

Here is the website where you will find more than 600 photos to practice on.

TOEIC Day 2 - Grammar Practice 1 (เทคนิคการเตรียมตัวสอบ toeic ภายใน 16 วัน)

TOEIC Day 2 - Grammar Practice 1

In the first part of reading test, it is sentence completion. This part requires knowledge of vocabulary and good understanding of grammar. These are most common subjects with tips on how to choose the right answer.

Relative Pronouns

The manager of the group was a brilliant man ------------ only weakness was that he hated to accept defeat.
A. whose
B. who
C. whom
D. who's

Relative pronoun test is the one that you should do it right because, in my opinion, it's the easiest. Relative pronoun comes in a complex sentence. Therefore, if the sentence is unclear, I suggest you split the sentence into two independent sentences.

The manager of the group was a brilliant man.

The manager's only weakness was that he hated to accept defeat.

From the sentence, I assumed that 'the weakness' is the manager's weakness. So it should be replaced with 'whose', which represents possession.

Preposition

Customers have expressed satisfaction ------------ this product, which has lead to an increase in the employees' motivation.

A. to
B. against
C. with
D. from

Preposition is frequently tested. A preposition is subject to the noun or verb to be used with. Some prepositions are easy to remember, some are confusing. So I suggest that when you practice on your vocabulary (nouns and verb), you should look up the accompanying preposition too. We call this collocation. You can go to www.ozdic.com for the collocation.

Let's say I can't remember which preposition should be used with satisfaction. Here's how I eliminate unlikely answer. Satisfaction + to should be followed by a person because you 'express your satisfaction to someone'.

'expressed satisfaction + against' sounds negative. 'Against' is often seen with negative word such as oppose against, fight against.

'expressed satisfaction from this product' doesn't sound right. So there is only one left and the answer is B. against.

Verb form

----------------- power failure, change the batteries once in six months.
A. Having avoided
B. Avoiding
C. To avoid
D. Avoid

Each choice gives different meaning to the whole sentence but you should identify what the true purpose of this sentence is. Look at the second sentence.

'change the batteries once every six months' is a suggestion. Therefore, the clause that comes before it must suggests the reason why this should be done.

The right answer is C. to avoid because To + verb  is like 'in order to'.

It is very important to distinguish different kinds of words and their functions. There are five kinds of word: noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, and preposition. A word can appear in different forms.

Noun

technically
notification
notify

notice
noticeable
noticeably

A word changes it forms by using suffixes and prefixes. If you know how to this tool, you don't have to memorize every vocabularies in the world. You just have to know the root word and how to use prefix and suffix to coin the word you want. Watch this clip for explanation of how to form a word.

  • Count vs uncount nouns

Knowing which noun is countable or uncountable matters in selecting an appropriate article and whether to add s/es at the end of a noun. This is a very basic grammar rule that you should be good at.

Singular
Plural
Countable
indefinite - a / an
definite - the
indefinite - s / es / others
definite - the + s / es / others
Uncountable
indefinite - some / Ø
definite - the
No plural form because it cannot be counted.

Singular
Plural
Countable
indefinite - a student
definite - the student
indefinite - students
definite - the students
Uncountable
indefinite - (some) sugar
definite - the sugar
Sugar cannot be counted because it's too small.

Watch this clip for easy explanation.

  • Pronouns

A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. The most frequently seen pronouns are I, me, he, she, you, it, that, they, each, few, many, who, whoever, whose, someone, everybody, etc. You must be able to choose an appropriate pronoun in a sentence and to identify the noun that is represented. A conjunction is the word that joins two parts of a sentence. There are two types of conjunctions: coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions. Coordinating conjunctions join two parts of a compound sentence. They are FANBOYS: for, and, or, but, nor, yet, so. Meanwhile, subordinating conjunctions join a complex sentence. The common ones are after, although, as, because, before, how, if, though, until, when, where, while. Go to these pages to learn more details.

In a sentence, there must be at least one action verb or linking verb. Action verbs are, for example, cry, drive, talk, feel, manipulate, organize, and become. They may be in present form, past form, or -ing form. Linkng verbs are auxiliary verbs suach as may, can, would. Go to this page to learn about how to locate a verb in a sentence.
