TOEIC Day 4 - Reading 1 (Email / Announcements / vocabs)
Part VII of TOEIC test is about reading comprehension. So the questions are in similar form to other popular tests such as TU-GET and CU-TEP GED TOEFL IELTS SAT SAT-II GMAT GRE . But instead of long passages, you will be given e-mails, announcement posters, news article, or easy texts from magazine. Undoubtedly, reading test in TOEIC is the easiest one. That's why the problem usually involves not the text or questions but the time.
Remember to get through these questions with speed. You typically don't have enough time for second thought. The key thing that you need to pay attention is how to retrieve the correct answers by practicing a lot.
The easiest and the most frequent type of text is email or letter. There may be one email/letter or, usually, two interacting emails/letters. They could be a response between a supplier and a customer regarding the product, a meeting arrangement, or some kind of notification. Here is the website where you can find sample test.

Look at these sample e-mails and I will tell you what the essential technique is.
The possible question is 'How was the order made at first?'. The given interaction is made via email but that's not necessarily the answer. When you're working on TOEIC reading test, you could either look at the text first or the questions first. For the email or letter, I prefer reading the text first and read every line. Skim-and-scan technique is unnecessary at this point since the text usually comes in short length with easy vocabularies.
'How was the order made at first?' You must be able to identify the position where the answer is located. In this case, it should be at the beginning of the email. There you'll find As we spoke on the phone earlier this morning,…. Then you know that the order was maid via telephone. The email is just for confirmation.
Another common type of text is an announcement on general topic, maybe store promotions or sales, service termination, or party events.
Several tricky questions can be made out of this announcement. For example, What is the objective of this home remodeling project? What is the maximum financial support a home owner could get? Can the home owner make the repair?. For this announcement, you definitely have to go through the text first because there are so little details. Then read the questions and you'll be able to locate the answers faster. Try out this test along with many more at this site.
